To ensure a perfect fit, we need precise measurements of your pet. Please use a caliper to take correct measurement, following the instructions below.
What Is a Caliper?
A caliper is a precision measuring instrument used to measure lengths with high accuracy. It consists of two main parts:
- Jaws: movable and fixed, used to grip the object being measured.
- Scale: main and additional (vernier), allowing you to read the dimension with an accuracy of up to a millimeter/inch, and sometimes even tenths of a millimeter/inch.
How to use a caliper:
Preparation:
- Make sure the caliper is clean and in good condition.
Measurement:
- Open the caliper jaws, widening them to a width greater than the limb being measured.
- Place the limb to be measured between the caliper jaws.
- Gently slide the jaws together until they touch the sides of the limb at the height of the joint. Do not press too hard, as this may distort the measurement.
- Read the measurement from the caliper.
Reading:
- Look at the main scale of the caliper. Find the line that is just before the zero on the vernier scale. This is the first part of your measurement.
- Look at the vernier scale. Find the line that perfectly coincides with a line on the main scale. This is the second part of your measurement.
- Add the two parts together to get the exact dimension.
Additional Tips:
- Measurement from the main scale is sufficient
- Due to the accuracy of the device there may be differences between the dimension measured in cm and inch - these differences are negligible
- If you have trouble reading the measurement, take a photo of the caliper with the measurement visible and send it to us.
- If you have any doubts, please contact us. We will be happy to answer your questions and help you take the measurements.
Remember that precise measurements are the key to a perfectly fitting orthosis that will provide your pet with comfort and effective treatment. Thank you for your cooperation!
