WIMBA Tokens: Range Of Motion System

How do WIMBA Tokens Work

Understanding how movement is controlled within WIMBA orthoses.

WIMBA Tokens are interchangeable components that set how much motion an orthosis allows. Depending on the token selected, the device can provide fixed support or a controlled limit of movement within a safe mechanical range. Tokens do not correct pathology, but they allow you to restrict or permit motion in a predictable, repeatable way that aligns with your clinical goals.

Each orthosis can include up to three sets of tokens. This gives you the ability to choose the level of motion control the patient needs and adjust it over time as their condition changes. Token selection is entirely clinical and based on your assessment of the patient’s pathology, biomechanics, and recovery plan.

If you’d like additional clinical input, you can submit a case consult and our team will review the information and offer guidance as needed.

WIMBA Token System

For every orthosis, you may choose up to three sets of tokens. Your selection depends on how you plan to guide the patient’s therapy.

Tokens may be used to:
• Maintain full immobilization
• Allow controlled physiologic movement
• Progress mobility over time by gradually increasing range of motion
• Provide a custom motion limit based on pathology or therapeutic considerations

You can choose from:
Standard Tokens with predefined angles
Custom Tokens created to your exact specifications (one custom token set is included per order; additional sets may be purchased for a fee)

How Tokens Work

Token values indicate maximum extension, not total range of motion.

The number you see in the app represents the point (measured from 0° full flexion) to which the limb can extend while wearing the device.

Example:
• A 180° token allows the limb to extend fully to 180°.
• Orthotic technology limits flexion to 75°, so full biological flexion (0°) is not achievable inside the device.
• Therefore, a 180° token produces an orthotic ROM of 105° (180 – 75).

Tokens are used to:
• Allow safe extension within physiologic limits
• Prevent hyperextension or abnormal biomechanics
• Support a structured rehab plan with progressive increases in range

Blockers

Blocker tokens hold the joint at a set angle and limit motion to the greatest extent the hinge allows. There will still be small, inherent micro-movements, but blockers provide the firmest level of restriction available in the device.

Custom Tokens and Custom Blockers

If a standard token does not match your patient’s therapeutic requirements, custom tokens can be created to match a specific angle or range (within device limitations)*.

Custom options include:
• Custom ROM tokens
• Custom fixed-angle blockers

These provide fully individualized options for complex cases.

*One custom token set is included per order; additional custom sets may be purchased for a fee.

Glossary

WIMBA Token

A replaceable circular component placed at the orthosis hinge that determines the allowed extension and flexion of the device.

Each GO token has two parts:
Inside piece: sets the flexion limit
Outside cover (with “W”): always faces outward
Reinforced tokens include a TPU cover for added durability.

Each PRO token is a singular flat insert:
• Slides into the hinge
• Hinge cap must be removed in order to change tokens

Tokens may be:
Blockers – fixed position
Standard Tokens – predefined physiologic angles set by the WIMBA team
Custom Tokens – clinician-defined angles or ranges

Markings and Orientation

Dots
Look for dot markings on both the orthosis and the token.
• One dot aligns with one dot
• Two dots align with two dots

Correct alignment ensures proper biomechanics.

Markings

For GO and Stifle Pro Mini devices the “W” cover always faces outward.

For PRO Devices the dots and numbers should face inward:

Numbers
Numbers indicate either:
• A single fixed angle (blocker)
• A maximum extension angle (e.g., 180°)
• A range of motion (e.g., 75–160°)

Reinforced GO Tokens

Reinforced versions are designed for larger or highly active dogs. They contain:
a) An inner shell that sets ROM or immobilization
b) A TPU outer plug for durability
